Love the concept of an illustration for the vision. Love the sketches of people in nature. Yeah you have fire management too! But at first glance it looks like the people are destroying the earth- maybe have the earth fully rounded and the barrier around people but not associated to the earth. Although it might be interesting to show the positive of building communication more than destroying barriers?
I don’t care for the face on the earth, makes it too silly. I think having the life coming from the earth, like shown, is enough. I would like the concept of the earth and scenes on an x and y axis. You could have lighter/faint past and future scenes to the left and right and the current and clear earth in the center. You could have the communication team (vision builders) possibly outside the scene possibly holding or connecting vision components? It could be fun to find a way to invite the viewer to be involved? Maybe have the team linking hands and the end hands reading out to the viewer? Or a character on the earth reaching out to the viewer?
OK, I’m being a pest. One last idea to share. I think a vision illustration that has the concept of the earth on the x and y axis like described above. With the illustrations simple and black and white against a faded color earth and a few overlaid black and white sketches similar to the current illustration (people doing things and wildlife etc). But, have several large puzzle pieces coming out of the earth with color/detailed sketch or photo of core strategic management activities (someone monitoring habitat conditions, someone communicating to the public or children, an interagency fire group implementing a prescribed burn, wildlife use and viewing) and an black and white sketched character representing the agency/tribal team holding those puzzle pieces outward- you’d see the hands, arms (shoulder patch), hat (logo) and face looking out toward the viewer.
I think the puzzle concept might sybmolize strategic efforts and how they are all connected.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment and share ideas- very fun excersie in creativity and visioning!
I don’t like the face of the earth. It’s creepy
I keep getting texts for this conference and am not even at this conference. Frustrating!
We’re told that you can text STOP to the number and it should unsubscribe you.
I think the picture is a little too cartoonish and is not great art. However, the ideas that it is trying to convey are appropriate. The picture is too busy and gives me the sense of an Hieronymus Bosch painting without the good artwork. The picture uses the term “Mother Earth” which does not really go with the rest of the drawing which shows mostly a human dominated world. For a first draft it is not bad, but it needs work.
I like the concept and messages of the #2 illustration…. but please add something ocean related too. Just as Dr. Sylvia Earle reminded us, conservation and the NWRS have unique opportunities (and challenges) in the sea. How about a coral reef? or a tuna? or scuba diver?
