Copies of the vision document. We are bringing in the New Year with a new vision for the National Wildlife Refuge System, and the implementation of that vision has already begun. Download a copy of the vision at AmericasWildlife.org/vision.

To make sure the vision gets out, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is printing almost 10,000 paperback copies of the Conserving the Future vision document and distributing them to all Refuge System employees, offices in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, all Friends organizations, partner organizations – including the offices of organizations in the Cooperation Alliance for Refuge Enhancement (CARE) – and state fish and wildlife agencies.

Implementation Overview

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has established nine implementation teams: strategic growth; urban wildlife refuge initiative; leadership; planning; science; community partnerships; communications; hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation; and interpretation and education. You can stay tuned to their work from future updates to this blog and the information under Get Involved, Stay Informed on our vision web page.

The Service has been charged to put together an Implementation Plan for Conserving the Future by January 20, 2012. You will be able to download a copy of that plan on http://AmericasWildlife.org/vision after Friday. This plan will include more information about implementation, timelines for the implementation teams’ work over the next year, and a communications framework for keeping employees, partners, and the public informed and engaged.

The Service is continuing to work with the National Wildlife Refuge Association to maintain the AmericasWildlife.org website throughout the implementation process.
