Delivery of conservation and the benefits of nature – often called “ecosystem services” – are at the very heart of the National Wildlife Refuge System’s mission and accomplishments.

This group focuses on the variety of issues from water quality to fire management to fighting invasive species – all in the context of a changing climate.

    There are many proposed wilderness areas within refuges. It would be good to review these areas and either have them designated or removed from the proposed list. This could be a point under the wilderness section of this document.

    This is a great suggestion, but we should take it even further. Many refuges that have developed new or updated CCPs over the last several years either did not conduct, or did not complete wilderness reviews. Refuges with proposed wilderness especially should complete a stand-alone wilderness review, but to be in compliance with policy, all refuges that have not yet completed wilderness reviews should complete them within some reasonable time frame (3 years?).
