On the eve of the Conserving the Future Conference, attendees prepared for a week of visioning for the National Wildlife Refuge System by participating in a number of field trips in the Madison area meant to inspire and get them out on the land.

The excitement was evident among attendees participating in the field trip to the historic Aldo Leopold family shack and Aldo Leopold Foundation’s energy efficient Aldo Leopold Legacy Center. Other field trips included visits to Horicon and Necedah National Wildlife Refuges. On Friday, after the Conference, two more field trips are scheduled, a second visit to the Leopold Shack and Center and an overview of the Southwest Wisconsin grasslands.
